WORKING GROUP ON USE OF POOR QUALITY WATER FOR IRRIGATION (WG-PQW)

Established : 1995

MANDATE
To promote a safe and good management of poor quality water for irrigation, to minimize the negative impact on human health and the environment , to promote the multiple use of poor quality water, and to give consideration to the Institutional and legislation aspects with regard to the use of poor quality waters.

MISSION STATEMENT
The Team supports work to promote the safe use of poor quality waters for irrigation especially in water stressed regions. The Team aims to develop guidelines, methodologies, techniques and models for integrated management of such waters. In doing so, the Team focuses primarily on preventing land and water resources degradation, as well as on protecting human health, the environment and ecological systems.

ABOUT ICID
The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) was established on 24 June, 1950 as a Scientific, Technical and Voluntary Not-for-profit Non-Governmental International Organization (NGO) with headquarters in New Delhi, India.

The Commission is dedicated to enhancing the worldwide supply of food and fibre for all people by improving water and land management and the productivity of irrigated and drained lands through appropriate management of water, environment and application of irrigation, drainage and flood management techniques.
